To register (grabb) real-time image as a file on your computer, you need a few basic components:

  • A camera that converts the image in the form of a light signal into an analog electrical signal (continuous changes in current or voltage),
  • A frame grabber that allows you to convert an analog electrical signal into a digital form,
  • Software that changes the digital image so that it is ready for saving (correction, reducing the volume - compression, combining data in accordance with the selected standard and the selected final file format),
  • The storage media that allows a sufficiently stable storing the final data.

Currently, some devices can perform more than one of the functions described. Modern "digital" cameras may include a classic camera module and a video grabber card additionally equipped with the possibility of initial data compression.
